Beauty Corner- Eyebrow Game

I admit, I am obsessed with eyebrows. Partly because I don’t have any. At a young age, my mother taught me how to use a straight blade and clean up my brows because she told me clearly “You don’t have anything there to tweeze.” There was no shade. She was right. And I’ve been obsessed with brows ever since.

They frame your face and make your total look complete. But what is trending now with brows is a travesty. The overly done, Bert & Ernie brow drawn in with a dark color- no matter what color your hair is….not acceptable.

Doing a brow highlight with a concealer nowhere near your skin color- equally unacceptable. If you are the complexion of Viola Davis, there is no way that you should have a brow highlight with concealer for Alicia Keys’ complexion- EVER.

There are concealer colors out there for all complexions. There is NO EXCUSE!

Now, with that said, let’s talk about proper brow shaping.

You can achieve brow shaping a few ways.

  • Threading
  • Waxing
  • Sugaring
  • Tweezing
  • Straight razor

All ways depend on your skin type and what works best for your skin. You should never be waxed if you are on Accutane  or any prescribed medication for acne. It will tear your skin.

Please let a licensed professional sculpt your brows! Nail technicians DO NOT learn waxing in school. Therefore, getting your brows done at your nail shop can be an issue. They are not skincare professionals and would not know that there are medications that could cause tearing with the skin when waxed. They also may be double dipping the wax or not using proper heating measures.

Below is the proper way to create an arch for the brow.

  • Measure from the nose back toward the corner of the brow at 45 degrees to determine where the tail of the brow ends
  • Measure from the nose straight up 90 degrees to determine where the brow should begin
  • Where the midpoint of the eye is, is where the highest point of the arch should be

Brow shape is also determined by the eye shape.

Brows can also be tinted as well to create more definition.

Please see your licensed skincare professional or esthetician to help you sculpt your brows!
