It’s still the beginning of the year. We just finished setting resolutions. Now we are supposed to spend a lot of money to tell someone I love you.
The concept of love is already abstract enough. No one person loves the same. There are countless books written on the art of love, how to love, who to love. Yet, most of us are still unsure of what love really is.
Love has even been broken down into 7 types:
- Eros– sexual desire, love of the body
- Philia– love of the mind or brotherly love. Platonic
- Pragma– longstanding love
- Agape– love of the soul. Unconditional
- Philautia-Love of the self
- Storge– love of the child
And then when you research further, you will find that there are several types of romantic love. The breakdown is pretty amazing. And yet, we still don’t get it.
Some of us spend time running from love. Some of us jump in head first. Some of us think that love is supposed to hurt. That there are supposed to be some sort of growing pains that go with it.
Love is all things positive. It’s not something that should leave you feeling sad or upset. It’s not something that should leave you feeling uneasy or irritable.
So with February and Valentine’s Day, why do so many people feel so unloved and unwanted?
We’re supposed to be happy on that day right? We’re supposed to feel great about love.
But instead, so many people feel depressed and unwanted. It’s supposed to be a day of love. And for those that participate, they want you to feel loved on that day, no matter what. But what if you don’t feel loved on February 13? Then you won’t feel that love on February 15 either.
The idea of focusing one day on love is great. But it’s like going on a diet. It doesn’t need to be a short term thing, it needs to be a lifestyle.
We need to figure out how to show more love period. There is a lot going on right now in the world and the last thing we need is to monetize love or commercialize it. Doing so cheapens it and makes people feel like it’s something you can buy and not something you need to work for.
It takes effort. Nurturing. And in order to love, you have to know love. You know love by loving yourself. It’s impossible to love someone else if you don’t love yourself. You’ve probably heard that before, but it’s true. If you don’t love yourself, you don’t have love to give away. You are simply infatuated or living some unhealthy euphoric high that will soon fade.
Love really does love you. It’s people that disappoint. Love is real is genuine and is nothing but positive energy. Don’t believe anything otherwise.
