“What I am now grateful for is the intuition to know what I needed when I was at my rock bottom.”
I made a conscious decision to introduce a dedicated yoga practice into my lifestyle during a time in my life in which I was most vulnerable. I had avoided some important realities over the years. I made sure that I stayed busy being a mom, student, and wife to avoid facing harsh realities. In this process of avoidance, I managed to complete a bachelors and masters degree and give birth to four children. I was very proud of these accomplishments, however, I was neglecting one important thing – ME.
As you can imagine, I was tired and needed refuge. What I am now grateful for is the intuition to know what I needed when I was at my rock bottom. Yoga was one of the those things. What I did not know is that my newfound practice was leading me into some new discoveries.
Here are some ways that I was forever transformed by practicing yoga:
- I learned to be still. One thing that I had gotten good at over the years was staying busy. When I was busy, I did not have to deal with the negative emotions, hurt and pains of my past and present realities. Yoga taught me to be comfortable with being still when life around me was chaotic. In those precious moments, I was able to connect to my inner voice.
- My sex drive soared. I don’t know exactly why this happened but the more connected my mind and body became, the more expressive I became sexually. I guess you will have to try it out for yourself to see how that works. 😉
- I learned to let go. Although this was hard at first, the more I practiced, the easier it was for me to let go of anything that did not serve me. Old habits. Negative thinking patterns. Relationships. Poof. Bye!
- I became my most important priority. When I am practicing yoga, I give myself permission to take care of myself. I have always been great at taking care of others and did not always commit the same energy and attention to myself. When I commit to take care of myself, I can give more of myself in other areas of my life. It’s a win-win.
Although my life is quite busy these days, I look forward to any moment I have to reconnect to that inner voice, quiet my mind, and take care of me. I would encourage you to do the same. Namasté.
