“If these billionaires are doting on Black women, why don’t Black women feel the same about themselves?”

I came across this article that has been shared over and over online about how billionaire Ben Horowitz was alleged to have made the comment that men like himself prefer to date Black women because “they are for grown ups”. He goes on to say that Black women are all around more “loyal, and protect your interests” and that they are the ones that provide a more stable foundation for a man that runs a billion dollar empire.

As a Black woman, I find it interesting to say the least. All the Black women in my life were and are strong women that can hold it down under any circumstance. They taught me to be providers, how to take care of my home and my family, and how to be a woman. I do recognize that not all women were taught that, but the Black women in my family did. I don’t know if it’s because I am still part of an age group where the women that reared me come from an era that was twerk-free and grandmothers were a grandmotherly age.

So when I saw this article, it made me think. Because I hear so many of my girlfriends saying how they can’t find a good man. Or that men are intimidated by them. I don’t know what any of that is about. I am a firm believer that while you can’t control what you are attracted to because that is chemistry, you can control what and whom you choose to be in a relationship with. So if the good men are hard to find, are you putting yourself in a space where there are eligible men that are what you need in your life, and if men are intimidated by you, what air are you presenting that makes you so hard to approach?

If these billionaires are doting on Black women, why don’t Black women feel the same about themselves? And are Black women willing to step outside of the box and possibly date outside of their race?

Yes, we are still having this conversation.

I did a little research on some of these women who wed billionaires or multimillionaire men. These women are nothing to play with.

Take Gwen Adams. She is the wife of Peter Norton- the Norton Antivirus mogul and owner.

With a prosperous career in banking, and international banking at that, she is now a consultant to the United Nations Office for International Partnerships.

Then take Mellody Hobson. She is married to George Lucas- Star Wars George Lucas.

Mellody is  the president of Ariel Investments and the current Chair of the Board of Directors of DreamWorks Animation. Princeton graduate, she is the head of the largest African- American money management and mutual fund companies in the United States. She also sits on boards for Estee Lauder and Starbucks.

Fashion designer and graduate of the Parsons School of Design Angela Brown became Princess Angela of Liechtenstein (Switzerland) when she married Prince Maximillian. She is the only Black royal monarch to rule in a European country.

These ladies had their own already. And I’m sure in that respect, it allowed them to be in the correct circles to meet men like this. Having a billionaire for a husband is not necessarily the key to happiness, but I’m sure that it makes life pretty damn nice.

So why are there still Black women out here that are complaining about not finding a good man? I have friends that are getting married all of the time and who are in happy marriages. So that means that there are good men out there somewhere.

Maybe he’s not Black. Maybe he is a different race than you. And really, I’m not sure if White women will be offended by this.

Either way, #blackgirlmagic is in full effect. And I love it.
