Life is not a cakewalk for some. It can be incredibly difficult and challenging. What’s easy is to be thankful when things are great. What’s hard is to be thankful when things are not looking so good.
There are countless books out about motivation, positivity, and mindfulness. They all have the same thing as their basis- be aware of the vibes you put out into the universe because those things come back to you.
At the end of the day, after being late for work, sitting in traffic, not being fulfilled in career, not finding the love that we want, it is easy to talk about the things that did not happen in our favor. What if you focused on the things that were going well? What if you focus on the things that were positive in your day?
But how do you change your thinking? It is not the easiest thing to do.
- Set alarms. We set alarms for various things throughout the day. Set an alarm or alert on your phone to remind you to take time out and recall the positive events of the day.
- Slow down. Too often we move throughout our day and don’t take the time to pay attention to much. Slow down and take time out to pay attention to what is going on around you.
- Prioritize. What you are thankful for varies from person to person. Figure out what is most important to you and focus on those things or people who bring happiness and peace in your life.
- Choose happiness. Happiness is a choice. Things aren’t always going to be ideal. But you have to make a conscious choice to be happy and find peace even in the midst of going through.
Journal or record your journey in gratitude. You will be amazed at your growth.
Thinking immediately- name three things that you are most grateful for!
