Why You Should Not Hesitate To Press Delete

This weekend was one that put the rest of the next twelve months in to perspective for me. I simply planned to go to the beach, regroup, and then go to a spoken word night the next day. I had not had so much on my agenda back to back in a long time. The weekend proved to be so much more.

That trip to the beach was a long time coming. After living in Georgia for 20 years and never venturing to the coast where the beaches are, I finally went. Just made a plan and made it happen. A simple drive to the coast should have happened a million times. But as a wife, I never made that drive. My husband at the time complained about all of the reasons why he never wanted to go. And we did everything together. So that meant, I never went, no matter how much I wanted to go. We would simply bypass Savannah and end up in Florida. I love Florida, but I always wanted to go to Savannah.

And that trip to Savannah was not uneventful. Halfway through, my bumper fell off the car. We sat for an hour waiting to figure out how to get it all of the way off of the car without complete damage. Finally, after being turned down for roadside assistance from my insurance company, the department of transportation suggested a call to 911. The sheriff came, cut the bumper off, inspected my car, and suggested we finish our trip to the beach and wished us a good journey.

I had to make it happen. My son was frowning in the backseat thinking that we were not going to make it to the beach. We did and had a great time.

Sunday, I went out to Java Monkey. It is a cute spot in Decatur, GA where they do spoken word each Sunday.

Spoken word. Let me rewind.

I’ve always wanted to perform some of my poetry. Did I mention that I am terrified of public speaking? Besides the fact that I haven’t quite had friends that shared my love for poetry and prose, attending a spoken word night was yet another thing that I just simply had not done- and I don’t know why.

Enter CeCe.

I start the blog, and she contacts me via a friend of mine that suggested that she call me because she is a writer looking for more outlets to express herself. We talk, immediately click and she shares that she does spoken word. I am immediately intrigued and share that I have always wanted to get on stage, but as a creative, I’m sort of shy about sharing my work. In our first conversation, she promised to make sure that we got out together to a spoken word night so I could see her perform and gain encouragement.

We went, and although CeCe didn’t get on the list because it was too long by the time we arrived, we had a wonderful time and I felt inspired and encouraged that my words spoken on a platform could affect and inspire others.

When I tell you that I have been listening to the Universe, I hear everything loud and clear. I have been on this journey and constantly pushed to use my gift of words to inspire others. Although some things got in the way of perfection this weekend, everything still worked out. Even though the bumper came clean off the car (ridiculous), we still pushed through. Even when I couldn’t find where I parked my car after spoken word, when I started to panic and get frustrated, I told myself to envision myself getting in the car and think positive. We turned the corner for the thousandth time in 30 minutes, and there was the parking lot sitting ahead, clear as day.

Speak positivity into your situation and turn the tide of the events in your favor.

I learned as well- you can’t do epic shit with basic people.

If you are going to vibrate on a higher frequency, you have to have people in your life that pour in to you. You have to have people around you that encourage you to go for the things that you want and that don’t stand in your way when you do. You have to surround yourself with people that are genuine, encouraging, and all without expecting anything in return. If you are going to be your best self, you can’t hesitate to press delete. You can’t hesitate to let go of people that carry negative vibes. Recognize when people are not really for you. It’s important to acknowledge that.

Delete.

Or at least keep them an arm’s length away. Not everyone is meant to be in your life for all seasons.

Don’t be afraid to let go. It is up to you to make sure that you move up to where you need to be in life. Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back from doing epic shit.
